Orange County sheriff’s deputies Monday arrested two men in Laguna Niguel suspected of burglarizing at least one Walgreens drug store in the county, authorities said.
Deputies were called at 1:16 a.m. to the Walgreens at Alicia and Crown Valley parkways, said sheriff’s Lt. Jerry Carlsen.
The store happened to be near a sheriff’s substation, so deputies arrived within two minutes and saw one suspect flee on foot, Carlsen said. Another suspect was arrested near the rear of the business.
Deputies used a helicopter and K-9 teams to locate the suspect at large, who refused to surrender until bitten on one shoulder by a police dog, the lieutenant said.
The injured suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment before booking, Carlsen said. The other suspect suffered heart palpitations during his arrest and was also taken to a hospital.
There have been several burglaries at Walgreens stores around Orange County, but Carlsen said he could not yet conclude the arrested men are suspects in those burglaries.
