A juvenile gray whale attracted crowds on the shoreline of Alamitos Bay Monday, and authorities were hoping to coax it back to sea.
The whale was spotted in the area near shore Sunday but appeared to have headed back to the ocean. But the whale showed up again Monday, bobbing in the waters near docked boats.
The whale is believed to be the same one that attracted crowds of onlookers earlier this month in Dana Point Harbor. A Long Beach Marine officials told the Orange County Register the whale apparently got separated from its mother as it made its way up the coast.
Crews were keeping an eye on the whale, trying not to disturb it, but hoping it will find its way out of the marina area and back to sea.
