A brush fire broke out Saturday near the toll plaza of the southbound San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor (73) in Newport Beach.

The fire was reported at 3:30 p.m., Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

“We’re trying to keep it under 30 acres,” Concialdi told City News Service. About 80 firefighters were on the scene from the OCFA, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported, he said.

At 5 p.m. the fire was reported under control, with total acreage to be determined later, Concialdi said.

The California Highway Patrol shut down all lanes of the southbound toll road at Newport Coast Drive. Lanes 1 and 2 were reopened at 5:49 p.m.
