A trapped driver suffered injuries to his face and was found unresponsive by firefighters in his white pickup truck when the vehicle left the roadway in Garden Grove Saturday and crashed into a tree.

There was no immediate word of a cause of the early morning crash. It was not known if alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident that happened about an hour after bars must shut down.

The condition of the motorist was not known, said Garden Grove Police Sgt. Michael Viscomi.

The crash occurred a little after 3 a.m. in the area of Valley View Street and Lampson Avenue, said Viscomi, adding that the motorist, the lone occupant inside his pickup truck, was temporarily trapped in his vehicle.

“It took several minutes to extract the driver from the vehicle, and he was immediately transported by ambulance to UCI Medical Center, he said.
