The search was suspended Saturday for a missing swimmer who was last seen swimming near Huntington Beach.

“The Coast Guard searched throughout the night into Saturday morning utilizing the 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Forward Operating Base Mugu and the Coast Guard Cutter Haddock,” the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement.

“The Coast Guard search spanned more than 152 square nautical miles before suspending search efforts pending further developments,” the statement said.

Huntington Beach lifeguards reported the missing swimmer, identified as Van Nguyen, in the vicinity of 18th Street in Huntington Beach at 8:20 p.m. Friday, according to the Coast Guard.

Nguyen was described as Asian, 5-feet-5 inches tall, 155 pounds and was last seen wearing red shorts with a black stripe, officials said.

Anyone with information regarding the search was asked to contact the Coast Guard at (310) 521-3805.
