One man was killed and two others injured in a collision at Haster Street and Aspenwood Lane for which one of the injured was arrested for possibly driving under the influence.

The crash occurred just after 8 p.m. Saturday when a white 2007 Volkswagen Golf was traveling east on Aspenwood Lane when it failed to stop for a red light at the intersection with Haster Street, according to Garden Grove Lt. Carl Whitney.

The Volkswagen continued east in the southbound lanes on Haster when it collided with a 1997 Toyota Tercel, Whitney said.

The Tercel came to rest against an apartment building, trapping the driver inside. The Volkswagen landed on the east curb line of Haster.

Firefighters removed the Toyota’s roof to free the driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Whitney said.

The two men inside the Volkswagen, a driver and his passenger, were taken to a local hospital for treatment before one of the men was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Garden Grove police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call traffic investigator Royce Wimmer at (714) 741-5230.
