One person suffered smoke inhalation from a fire that damaged a two-story apartment complex in San Juan Capistrano this morning, leaving 15 people displaced.
The victim was a female in her late teens who lived in an adjacent apartment, said Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority. She was taken to Mission Hospital in moderate condition, he said.
The fire was reported at 1:20 a.m. in the 26500 block of Calle Santa Barbara, Concialdi said. About 30 firefighters responded to the scene and knocked down the flames in about 30 minutes, he said.
The fifteen people displaced from the fire — five girls, five boys and five adults — will stay with family members, according to Concialdi.
The fire caused $200,000 worth of damage to the structure and $50,000 to its contents, he said. A cause of the fire was under investigation.
