A 39-year-old Santa Ana man was in custody Monday on suspicion of killing his 38-year-old live-in girlfriend during a fight at their home.
A mortally wounded Shannon Pearce Likens — also of Santa Ana — was found by officers responding to a domestic violence call about 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of 4th Street, Santa Ana police said.

Likens was lying on the floor bleeding and unresponsive when officers discovered her, police said.
Those officers and paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority attempted life-saving measures, but Likens died at the scene just before noon.
Prentis John Hill, Likens’ boyfriend, was arrested Sunday at an emergency room at College Hospital in Costa Mesa. It’s unclear why Hill went to the hospital or if he was injured in the domestic violence incident in which his girlfriend died.
Hill was booked into the Santa Ana jail on a charge of homicide, according to police.
Anyone with information on this homicide was asked to call Santa Ana police at (714) 245-8390. Tipsters can also call Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS.
