A 65-year-old Mission Viejo man was killed in a three-vehicle crash early Wednesday on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Westminster.
The crash happened about 1:40 a.m. north of Springdale Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 2006 Subaru WRX driven by a 26-year-old Costa Mesa man crashed into the rear of the fatally injured driver’s 2000 Chevrolet S-10, causing it to overturn and slam into a 2014 Honda Accord driven by a 19-year-old Garden Grove woman, the CHP reported.
Investigators were working to determine why the Subaru crashed into the Chevy S-10, the CHP reported.
The name of the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was withheld pending notification of his family.
