Basketball Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman was released from jail Sunday following an overnight suspected drunken driving arrest in Newport Beach.
Rodman, 56, was stopped at 11:11 p.m. Saturday in the 4500 block of West Coast Highway for a vehicle violation, said Lt. Rachel Johnson of the Newport Beach Police Department.
A subsequent investigation led to his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving, according to Johnson, who said the five-time NBA champion was cooperative with the officers.
He was released about 6:15 a.m. and given a court date for his arrest, she said.
Rodman attorney Paul Meyer released a statement Sunday evening on behalf of his client.

“Dennis is taking this seriously and will take positive steps to address his personal issues,” Meyer said. “He appreciates the professionalism of the Newport Beach Police Department.”
Rodman’s arrest follows a history of reported alcohol abuse. In May 2008 he entered a Florida outpatient rehab center, and in 2009 his behavior led to an intervention by family and friends.
His alcohol abuse landed him an appearance on “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” but then in 2010 he was removed from an Orange County restaurant for disruptive behavior.
“In all honesty, Dennis, although a very sweet person, is an alcoholic. His sickness impacts his ability to get work,” his financial advisor said in 2012.
Rodman again entered a rehabilitation facility in 2014 to seek treatment for alcohol abuse.
