A 21-year-old man who already was facing charges of molesting three underage relatives was charged Friday with harassing a 17-year-old cheerleader at Century High School in Santa Ana.
Manuel Nava is charged with a count of attempted lewd act on a child younger than 14, attempted lewd act on a child 14 years old, and lewd acts on a minor younger than 14, all felonies. He also is charged with three counts of child annoyance or molestation, all misdemeanors.
Nava is accused of molesting two boys and a girl he is related to, said Deputy District Attorney Kristin Bracic. One boy was 6, the other boy was 11 and the girl was 14 when they were allegedly attacked, Bracic said.
Nava was charged Friday 11 misdemeanors, including disobeying a court order, disturbing school activities, resisting arrest, remaining on campus without permission, and failing to leave campus when instructed to do so, according to court records.
The incidents range from June through October, according to court records.
The other girls on the cheerleading squad complained to a teacher about Nava’s harassment of the alleged victim, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
“He was obsessed with one of the underage cheerleaders,” Bertagna said. “He had been at the campus before so it was like a stalking thing.”
Nava’s arraignment Friday was rescheduled for March 16.
