Three people were hurt, including a man who suffered traumatic burn injuries, in a fire at a three-story apartment building in Santa Ana Wednesday, and a woman was detained for questioning about the blaze.
Firefighters were called just after midnight to Saddleback Lodge, 1655 E. First St., and responding crews found flames coming from the second and third floors, according to Capt. Tony Bommarito of the Orange County Fire Authority.
A third alarm was requested and nearly 80 firefighters took about 43 minutes to extinguish the blaze, Bommarito said.
Eight to 10 apartments were damaged or destroyed, Bommarito said.
Eighteen residents were displaced and the Red Cross was called in to help them, Bommarito said.
A 30-year-old man was taken to a hospital in critical condition with burn injuries, Bommarito said. A woman in her 30s suffered burns to her feet and was seriously injured, he said.
The woman who was being questioned about the fire — which was deemed suspicious — suffered minor injuries, Bommarito said.
