The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Saturday for the 39th consecutive day, decreasing 1.6 cents to $3.566.
The average price has dropped 31.1 cents over the past 39 days, including 1.4 cents on Friday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price is 7.9 cents less than one week ago and 25.6 cents lower than one month ago, but 35.8 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 41.6 cents since the start of the year.
The streak of decreases is the longest since a 42-day run from July 6-Aug. 16, 2016.
The Orange County average price dropped for the 37th time in the last 38 days Saturday, decreasing 1.4 cents to $3.512. It has dropped 31.1 cents over the past 38 days, including 1.1 cents on Friday.
The Orange County average price is 8.4 cents less than one week ago and 25.5 cents lower than one month ago, but 35.8 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 39.6 cents since the start of the year.
The Orange County average price dropped for 27 consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent Nov. 21, then resumed declining the following day.
“Oil prices have dropped by more than 20 percent in the last month, bringing the national average gas price of $2.51 a gallon very close to the same price level as this time last year,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
“Unfortunately, Southern California drivers are still paying nearly 40 cents more per gallon on average than at this time last year. But we could see a few local stations post prices under $3 a gallon for regular unleaded in the next week or two.”
