The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Sunday for the 47th consecutive day, decreasing 1 cent to $3.477.
The average price has dropped 40 cents over the past 47 days, including 1.4 cents Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price is 7.9 cents less than one week ago and 27.6 cents lower than one month ago, but 31.2 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 32.7 cents since the start of the year.
The streak of decreases is the longest since a 92-day run from Oct. 2, 2014-Jan. 1, 2015.
The Orange County average price dropped for the 45th time in the past 46 days, decreasing nine-tenths of a cent to $3.42. It has dropped 40.3 cents over the past 46 days, including 1.3 cents on Saturday.
The Orange County average price is 8.3 cents less than one week ago and 27.8 cents lower than one month ago, but 31.6 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 30.4 cents since the start of the year.
The Orange County average price dropped for 27 consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent Nov. 21, then resumed declining the following day.
“The pace of price drops accelerated in the last week, with some individual stations reducing their prices by as much as 10 cents overnight,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
“Gas prices under $3 a gallon have appeared in many major metropolitan areas.”
