A sinkhole opened up in a condo complex in La Habra, authorities said Thursday.

Firefighters responded about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of West Imperial Highway and located the sinkhole, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The sinkhole was 40-to-50-feet long and close to homes on both sides, ABC7 reported. Voluntary evacuations were underway.

The sinkhole was caused by the collapse of an underground flood control channel underneath a greenbelt in the middle of the complex, according to NBC4.

A tree fell on top of a condo building, causing some damage, NBC4 reported. Repair crews from the city of La Habra were at the scene.

No injuries were reported.
