The Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams will conduct a joint practice Thursday at the Jack Hammett Sports Complex in Costa Mesa.
The practice at the Chargers training facility at 2750 Fairview Road is scheduled for 10 a.m.-noon Thursday. Gates will open at 9 a.m.
Fans may pre-register for free training camp tickets at chargers.com/camp or register in person at the entrance to the complex. All bleacher seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fans can also register at the same online address for a blood drive to be held from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
The teams will conduct another joint practice Saturday at 2 p.m. at UC Irvine, the Rams training camp site, with gates opening at 12:30 p.m. Fans seeking to attend must register for free tickets at therams.com/training camp or on the Rams mobile app.
“It’s just good to bring in another team just so that you can break up camp,” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said. “These guys, they’re tired of going against one another. You get some fresh meat in here and some competition, it’s just good for morale. Whenever you have good morale, you usually get good production. We’re looking to get better and we know the Rams are going to help us get better.”
There will be no tackling and “we’re staying off the quarterback,” in the practice, Rams coach Sean McVay said.
Multiple fights broke out during a joint practice involving the teams on Aug. 9, 2017, at UCI.
The first fight began following an incomplete pass when Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson threw a punch at Chargers receiver Dontrelle Inman. After Johnson was pushed away by an official, Rams defensive back Nickell Robey-Coleman shoved Inman to the ground.
Robey-Coleman is the only involved player remaining with either team.
“I think there’s full confidence that both coach Lynn, myself, our coaching staffs on each side and, really, the players, know what we want to be able to get out of it and we’re hopeful that there won’t be any issues like that,” McVay said.
