A man who attempted to steal items from a convenience store in Santa Ana was taken into custody Thursday morning shortly after a police dog was called to the scene.
Officers responded about 11 p.m. Wednesday to the 7-Eleven store in the 700 block of North Main Street, near Civic Center Drive, the Santa Ana Police Department said.
According to a news photographer at the scene, two convenience store workers confronted the suspect, then scuffled with him, before the suspect retreated to the rear of the store and the workers ran outside to call police.
Officers arrived at the scene shortly before midnight and announced a police dog would be sent into the building. The man surrendered just after midnight and was taken into custody without incident and the dog was not used in the arrest, police said.
The age and name of the suspect were not disclosed.
No injuries were reported.
