One person was killed when a sports car crashed into a commercial building on Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach and burst into flames, authorities said Monday.
The crash was at 10:55 p.m. Sunday at PCH and 61st Street, an area with a “dramatic curve,” Newport Beach police Sgt. B. Gregson said.
The driver of the was westbound at the time of the crash, he said.
A body was found inside the remains of the vehicle when firefighters put out the flames, Gregson said.
The age and gender of the victim were not available, he said.
Westbound lanes of PCH in the area were closed for the investigation and clean-up but police expected to reopen one lane for the morning rush, Gregson said.
