The North Justice Center in Fullerton, which was closed late last week due to air quality issues, is expected to reopen a week from Monday according to Orange County Superior Court officials.
The courthouse at 1275 N. Berkeley Ave. was closed Friday when workers discovered what could be asbestos as they were doing “routine maintenance of an air handler,” according to Kostas Kalaitzidis, a spokesman for the Orange County Superior Court system.
Air quality tests showed that one judge’s chambers had asbestos fibers that exceeded state regulations by 0.00775%, Kalaitzidis said. He said the rest of the courthouse was deemed OK, adding that the courthouse’s air quality has been monitored over the past nine months because of ongoing construction on the fourth floor.
All court cases were reassigned to be heard in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana through Friday.
“We anticipate opening (the North Justice Center) on Monday, Kalaitzidis said.
