The California Highway Patrol impounded six vehicles Saturday morning after breaking up an attempted street takeover, possibly for racing, on the Orange (57) Freeway in Anaheim.
The incident happened about 1 a.m. on the southbound freeway, south of Katella Avenue, according to an Orange County CHP dispatcher.
The takeover never took off, according to CHP Sgt. Jesus Sanchez, when a street racing task force operating nearby learned of the plan to shut down the freeway and created a traffic break ahead of some cars.
“Several of these individuals, most of them are going to be run through our system, to check on any outstanding warrants,” Sanchez told the OC Register. “A few of them, unfortunately, are going to be taken into custody for spectating at a street racing event, which is unlawful, and that’s what we’re enforcing here.”
