Garden Grove Mayor Steven R. Jones was selected Monday as the next chairman of the Orange County Transportation Authority board.

Jones moves up to the top spot after serving as vice-chairman of the board last year. Jones succeeds Tim Shaw, a La Habra city councilman, who still serves on the board.

“OCTA’s mission to keep Orange County moving is vital to the quality of life here in our county and it’s a true honor to be chosen by my colleagues to help deliver a balanced and sustainable transportation system,” Jones said.

Jones said he was “excited to see progress on building the OC Streetcar,” which runs from Santa Ana to his city.

Jones has served on the OCTA board since 2013.

Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do will serve as the OCTA board’s vice chairman this year.
