Firefighters contained a house fire in Costa Mesa in about 25 minutes early Wednesday.

Crews responded just after midnight to a single-story home in the 300 block of Joann Street, near Colgate Drive, and began an offensive attack, according the Costa Mesa Fire Department.

Photos from the scene showed thick, gray smoke spewing from the home.

Knock down was declared at 12:22 a.m., the department said.

The department tweeted about 12:30 a.m. that a primary and secondary search of the home was conducted and all persons and pets were out and safe.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
