A pedestrian was struck by two vehicles and killed Monday while walking on the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway at the transition to the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway, authorities said.
It was reported at 3:39 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver of one of the vehicles involved, a green Mercury Mountaineer SUV, pulled over on the right shoulder and the driver of the other vehicle stopped in the center divider, the CHP said.
Information on the fatally injured person’s identity was not immediately available.
A SigAlert was issued for all lanes on the southbound Santa Ana Freeway and the transition road, but the number 3 lane of the transition road was reopened at 4:04 a.m. The remaining lanes reopened about 90 minutes afterward.
