A woman was rescued this evening from the Santa Ana River in Santa Ana after going in after her dog.
The woman was near the riverbed, at Fifth Street, when her boxer went in the water, and she followed, according to Capt. Thanh Nguyen of the Orange County Fire Authority, which received a call about the woman in the river about 8:10 p.m.
“The water’s not deep but its moving fast, it can sweep you off your feet pretty fast,” Nguyen said.
Firefighters were deployed along the river in an attempt to rescue the woman, and one firefighter was able to grab her and her dog near McFadden Avenue, about a mile from where she fell in, Nguyen said.
The woman was examined by paramedics who determined she was doing very well, Nguyen said.
