A vehicle plunged 500 feet down a hillside along the Santa Ana River bottom in Jurupa Valley Friday, and firefighters hiked down the ravine to rescue the injured motorist.
The crash was reported about 4:55 p.m. in the area of Peralta Place and Riverview Drive, just east of the Jurupa Hills Country Club, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Rescuers spotted the vehicle deep in the ravine, with the driver unable to extricate himself. Firefighters hiked down to the vehicle and pried it open, pulling the man to safety about 5:30 p.m., according to reports from the scene.
The motorist was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.
