A 47-year-old woman was killed when she crashed her SUV on the northbound Costa Mesa (55) Freeway in Costa Mesa Friday.
The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban about 1:30 p.m. north of Paularino Avenue when she veered to the right for an unknown reason, crashed through a guardrail and careened down an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, 64-year-old Judy Clark, sustained moderate injuries, the CHP said.
