Michael Gurrola of Riverside was pronounced dead soon after arrival at Riverside Community Hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol, which reported that the crash occurred about 1 a.m. on southbound I-215, just south of Columbia Avenue,.
Gurrola was driving a Honda Civic in the slow lane when the car slammed into the back of the big rig. It was unclear whether the truck had stopped on the freeway just prior to impact.
