A man who allegedly broke into a house in Midway City early Wednesday “in possession of a hatchet” was killed in a deputy shooting, authorities said.
Deputies were sent to the 14000 block of Van Buren Street about 5 a.m. on a report of “a subject breaking into a house and vandalizing property,” according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
“A deputy-involved shooting occurred and subject is deceased at scene,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
Information was not immediately available on the identity of the fatally injured man.
“It has been confirmed the suspect, an adult Asian male, was located on the side of a residence on Van Buren in possession of a hatchet … when the deputy-involved shooting occurred,” the sheriff’s department said. “District Attorney Investigators are on scene investigating the shooting.”
