A Costa Mesa man pleaded guilty Thursday in connection with distributing fentanyl that killed a man and woman four years ago.
Omar Alejandro Reynoso pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. He was scheduled to be sentenced April 8 and faces five years in federal prison, according to his plea agreement.
Reynoso was in possession of about 35 milligrams of fentanyl at the Travelodge on Bristol Street in Costa Mesa where he was living when he was arrested on Nov. 27, 2019, according to prosecutors. One of the victims with him who died had bought Xanax bars from the defendant that were laced with fentanyl for about $10 to $20, prosecutors said.
Costa Mesa police responded to the same motel on Nov. 7, 2019, regarding a woman who was unresponsive in the defendant’s room, prosecutors said. Reynoso sold her fentanyl-laced powder for $20 to $30, and she overdosed and died, prosecutors said.
Reynoso moved her to another room in the motel before police arrived, prosecutors said.
