Firefighters rescued an couple from an intense fire Tuesday evening in Laguna Hills.

The Orange County Fire Authority’s command center received a call regarding a fire at a residence in the 25000 block of Mawson Drive shortly before 9 p.m. and upon their arrival, firefighters found a fire in the garage that was threatening the home, according to the fire authority.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames from extending into the house, which had been consumed with smoke.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived at the scene and assisted firefighters in getting the couple safely out of the home. Paramedics were called and took the couple to a hospital for treatment, the fire authority said.

No firefighters were injured, according to the fire authority.

The family dog was found outside the home uninjured.

Fire investigators are at the scene and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
