Ice Cube collaborator Sir Jinx is suing Warner Music Group and other entities, claiming he is owed more than $60,000 in royalties for beats he contributed to Yo-Yo’s album “Make Way for the Motherlode.”
The rapper, whose real name is Anthony Wheaton, also names Universal Music Group and Atlantic Recording Corp. in his Lo Angeles Superior Court lawsuit filed Friday, alleging breach of contract and good faith as well as unjust enrichment. He additionally seeks an accounting of records.
“Sir Jinx has attempted to be patient, but after years of bare communication coupled with passive threats with unsubstantial results, Sir Jinx files this case to assert the financial damages he incurred due to the defendants’ disregard and breach of contract,” the suit states.
A Warner Bros. representative could not be immediately reached for comment.
According to the suit, Wheaton notified the defendants in September 2019 that he was owed $62,090 in royalties for his contribution to the Yo-Yo song, but was never paid even though he paid income tax on the money. The suit also states that the companies have denied his requests for an accounting.
Wheaton, 54, is a cousin of multi-platinum producer Dr. Dre.
