Full overnight closures are planned this weekend on the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Diamond Bar as crews work to improve traffic flow and safety at an interchange called one of country’s most congested.

The closure between Lemon Avenue/Brea Canyon Road and Diamond Bar Boulevard is scheduled for 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday and 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday.

Planned closures of ramps, connectors and streets are as follows:

— The northbound Orange (57) Freeway to westbound 60 connector will remain open;

— The westbound 60 Diamond Bar Boulevard on-ramp will be closed;

— The westbound 60 Grand Avenue on- and off-ramps will be closed;

— The southbound 57 to westbound 60 connector will be closed;

— The westbound 60 to southbound 57 connector will be closed; and

— The Grand Avenue bridge will experience lane closures but will remain open.

The 57/60 Confluence Project, a major safety and traffic improvement effort led by the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments in partnership with LA Metro and Caltrans, promises to improve flow and safety along a two-mile long stretch that has been ranked by the American Transportation Research Institute as the worst truck bottleneck in California and the seventh-worst in the nation.
