With repairs nearly completed on a massive water main break that flooded a swath of West Hollywood a week ago, another leak occurred Thursday a few miles away along Santa Monica Boulevard, but with far less damaging results.
According to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the leak occurred Thursday morning in a 6-inch cast-iron water main near Santa Monica Boulevard and Laurel Avenue. The leak caused some minor flooding in the area, affecting traffic on heavily traveled Santa Monica Boulevard, but there were no reports of serious damage.
Eastbound Santa Monica Boulevard was closed at Laurel to accommodate repair work. By mid-morning Thursday, some water was seen still bubbling up from the site of the leak, but the amount was far less than the deluge that occurred last week when a major water line ruptured along Sunset Boulevard.
LADWP spokeswoman Pamela Workman said there was no estimated time for repairs to be completed on the latest leak.
