A canyon road in Calabasas was open to traffic Tuesday after paving work was completed following repairs to a broken water main.

The break occurred Sunday in a 20-inch main on Las Virgenes Road, which morphs into Malibu Canyon Road as it winds toward the ocean. Crews shut down the road between Lost Hills Road and Mulholland Highway east of Malibu Canyon Road.

The break resulted in water service interruptions in the surrounding area, according to the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District.

“Crews worked around the clock to repair the pipeline and were able to restore service to customers by 4 p.m. Monday,” said the district’s director of internal affairs, Adrienne Burns. “Road repairs were completed later that night and Las Virgenes Road was re-opened around 10 p.m. (Monday).”

The cause of the break has not been determined, Burns said.
