Motorists in Long Beach were advised Tuesday to prepare for widespread street closures and traffic delays this weekend for the 42nd annual Long Beach Marathon.
A weekend of marathon-related events will begin Friday, with the marathon scheduled Sunday.
Most road closures and detours will be in effect on a rolling basis between 4:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, according to the city. The closures generally will affect both sides of the street.
Streets affected will include:
— Eastbound Shoreline Drive from Shoreline Village Drive to Ocean Boulevard, beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday and continuing until 5 p.m. Sunday;
— Shoreline Drive in both directions from Shoreline Village Drive to Ocean Boulevard, beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday;
— Shoreline Drive from Shoreline Village Drive to the Long Beach (710) Freeway;
— Pine Avenue from Shoreline Drive to Seaside Way;
— Queensway Bridge from Shoreline Drive to the 710 Freeway;
— Ocean Boulevard from Livingston Drive to 54th Street;
— Livingston Drive from Termino Avenue to Broadway;
— Nieto Avenue from Appian Way to Broadway;
— Appian Way from Nieto Avenue to East Third Street;
— East Third Street from Appian Way to Paoli Way;
— Marine Stadium from Nieto Avenue to Bayshore Avenue;
— East Colorado Street from Orlena Avenue to Appian Way;
— Orlena Avenue from East Colorado Street to Fourth Street;
— Fourth Street from Monrovia Avenue to Orlena Avenue;
— Monrovia Avenue from Sixth Street to Fourth Street;
— Sixth Street from Park Avenue to Monrovia Avenue;
— Park Avenue from Anaheim Street to Appian Way;
— Anaheim Street from Pacific Coast Highway to Park Avenue;
— northbound Clark Avenue from Atherton Street to Anaheim Street;
— westbound Atherton Street from Clark Avenue to Bellflower Boulevard;
— southbound Palo Verde Avenue from Atherton Street to Anaheim Street;
— Atherton Street from Bellflower Boulevard to Palo Verde Avenue; and
— Ocean Boulevard from Livingston Drive to Alamitos Avenue.
Racecourse streets are scheduled to reopen by 2 p.m. Sunday. Shoreline Drive between Shoreline Village Drive and Ocean Boulevard is expected to fully reopen by 5 p.m., officials said.
Temporary no-parking restrictions will be posted along the marathon course. Vehicles left in restricted areas may be cited and towed at the owner’s expense to the city’s tow yard at 3111 E. Willow St.
Residents in Belmont Shore, the Peninsula, Naples, Belmont Heights, Bluff Park, Bluff Heights, Alamitos Beach, Park Estates and Los Altos are being advised to review neighborhood access information before the race.
Free parking from Saturday night through Sunday will be available to Belmont Shore, Peninsula and Naples residents in beach parking lots along Ocean Boulevard. Police escorts may be available at select locations for residents leaving the area Sunday.
Boat owners who park at Marina Green on Saturday will continue to have access through Shoreline Village Drive. On Sunday, boat owners can park at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center via Pine Avenue.
