A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday morning in the Cambodia Town community of Long Beach, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched at about 5:40 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Anaheim Street and Junipero Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Paramedics rushed the pedestrian to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

“A male adult pedestrian was walking southbound in a marked crosswalk on Junipero Avenue across Anaheim Street,” according to a police statement. “While the pedestrian was walking, a 2010 Toyota Prius was traveling eastbound in the number one lane and struck the pedestrian.”

Speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the collision, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the crash was urged to call the LBPD at 562-570-5520. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
