Following days of pounding surf, one lane of southbound Pacific Coast Highway was closed Tuesday amid concerns about erosion of a cliffside alongside the roadway.
The roadway was closed late Tuesday morning between Reef Point Drive and Irvine Cove Drive, in an area south of Crystal Cove, according to Caltrans.
Video footage from the area showed what appeared to be a large crack on the hillside beneath the road, which did not suffer any actual damage. The closure appeared to be precautionary, with authorities expected to inspect the area to determine the integrity of the hillside.
