A fire that erupted Thursday under a tractor-trailer parked in a storage facility carport on the north end of Riverside consumed the truck and damaged a structure before crews got it under control.
The wind-driven blaze was reported about 1:15 p.m. at Alamo Street and Dalton Road, roughly a half-mile east of the Pomona (60) Freeway, according to the Riverside Fire Department.
“When we arrived, the cab and two saddle tanks loaded with 200 gallons of diesel on the big rig were burning,” Capt. Scott Richman told City News Service. “The fire spread to the whole 18-wheeler.”
Four engine crews deployed to prevent the wind-whipped flames from spreading beyond the carport, according to Richman.
He said the flames reached an adjacent car, causing unspecified damage, as well as a stand-alone storage unit, which was also damaged.
No one was injured.
By 1:45 p.m., the blaze was completely contained and most of the flames were knocked down, according to the fire captain.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
