A fire that erupted Monday in the garage of a Moreno Valley home damaged half the house, displacing its six occupants.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 3:30 p.m. in the 15000 block of Avenida De Calma, near Iris Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in and around the attached garage. At least one vehicle was damaged.

Firefighters contained the blaze within an hour, preventing the flames from consuming the two-story dwelling. The side of the home nearest the garage sustained most of the damage.

Three adults and three children were displaced by the fire, and American Red Cross personnel were asked to assist them with finding temporary lodgings, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
