A big rig crashed into an SUV Wednesday on Interstate 10 near Blythe, injuring two people and causing traffic to back up.
The crash was reported at 11:24 a.m. just west of Mesa Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Honda Pilot was reportedly speeding and attempting to pass the tractor-trailer when the rig hit the SUV, causing the SUV to roll over, the CHP said.
The Riverside County Fire Department reported two people were injured in the crash and rushed to an area hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries was not disclosed.
All westbound lanes were blocked immediately following the crash, prompting vehicles to use the shoulder to avoid the traffic jam.
There was no immediate word on when the roadway would reopen.
