A fire that erupted Monday in a structure on a Nuevo property was stopped by firefighters before extending into vegetation.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:05 p.m. on Firecat Road, near Beech Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. At least three engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in what appeared to be a detached garage or storage building.
With virtually no wind in the area, a large column of smoke was visible miles away from the blaze, prompting numerous calls to 911, with people concerned that a brush fire was underway. However, the flames did not extend into surrounding trees and bushes, nor did it damage the adjacent residence, officials said.
The fire was completely contained within 15 minutes.
The cause was under investigation.
