A hiker collapsed on a trail just east of Wildomar Wednesday afternoon, and firefighters were sent to rescue him.

The “hiker down” call was received about 1:10 p.m. in the area of Farm and Bundy Canyon roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Several engine crews were sent to the location, and personnel located the hiker less than 30 minutes later.

The unidentified hiker was ill from unknown causes, possibly dehydration in the 90-degree heat. An air ambulance was summoned to retrieve him and transport him for medical treatment.
