A fire that erupted Friday in Woodcrest burned about two acres before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:12 p.m. in the 17000 block of Iris Avenue, near Washington Street, just south of Riverside, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames on a large residential lot, threatening an outbuilding, according to the agency.

A Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter was summoned, but firefighters stopped the blaze’s forward rate of spread before the chopper reached the area, and it returned to Hemet-Ryan Airport, according to reports from the scene.

The fire was almost fully contained by 5:30 p.m.

There was no word on what triggered it.
