The Imperial Irrigation District Sunday urged its power customers to conserve energy in order to reduce the probability of power outages amid a heat wave hitting the Southland.
“By conserving energy we can take stress off the energy grid, maintain reliable energy delivery service and help avert rotating power outages,” the IID tweeted.
The alert will be in effect Sunday to Monday between the hours of 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The Coachella Valley is expected to see “dangerously hot conditions” through Monday, with temperatures reaching 120 degrees in some places, according to the National Weather Service.
An excessive heat warning is in effect through 9 p.m. Monday for local deserts, including those in San Diego and Riverside counties.
IID serves electricity to more than 150,000 customers in parts of Riverside and San Diego counties, and all of Imperial County.
