A motorist was critically injured Friday in a collision on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley that left his vehicle wedged underneath a box truck.

The crash was reported just after 3 a.m. on the westbound 60 at Van Buren Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that a compact pickup slammed into the rear of the truck and got stuck beneath it.

The pickup driver, whose identity was not released, was extricated by firefighters a short time later and taken to a Riverside hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The box truck driver was not hurt.

California Highway Patrol officers were investigating the collision.
