The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County rose three-tenths of a cent Sunday to $4.27, the seventh time in eight days it has changed by three-tenths of a cent or less.

The average price is 1 cent higher than one week ago, 9.4 cents more than one month ago and $1.17 greater than a year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has risen $1.09 since the start of the year to its highest amount since May 4, 2014, because of a sharp increase in the oil price and higher demand due to more people driving to work, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
