A collision involving five vehicles on Interstate 10 west of Whitewater clogged traffic in the Banning Pass late Monday afternoon.
The crash was reported just before 5 p.m. on westbound I-10, about three miles west of Haugen-Lehmann Way, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic information page.
The CHP reported one person was “unresponsive” at the scene, but no other information about possible injuries was immediately available.
Witnesses reported the crash occurred because multiple vehicles failed to stop when traffic slowed down.
CHP officers were working to move two involved vehicles stopped in the center divider over to the shoulder, causing multiple lanes to be shut down. Debris was reportedly strewn across all the westbound lanes.
