Riverside County health officials Saturday reported 683 newly confirmed coronavirus cases, surging up from 552 the day before, and one additional virus-related death.

Officials also reported six more COVID-positive hospital patients, for a total of 166. That total includes 32 patients in intensive care units, the same as Friday, according to the Riverside University Health System.

The aggregate number of COVID-19 cases recorded since the public health documentation period began in March 2020 now stands at 305,195, up from 304,512 the day prior, RUHS officials said.

The agency said 4,658 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded in the last 16 months.

The number of known active virus cases is 3,036. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total, according to the county Executive Office. Verified patient recoveries countywide are 297,501.

Citing a recent uptick in coronavirus infections due largely to the Delta variant, Riverside County resumed daily COVID updates this week after switching to weekly data updates last month. Figures will again be published Monday-Friday.
