A big rig overturned on Highway 78, killing several of the animals inside, although the driver was not injured.
The single vehicle collision was reported at 6:03 a.m. on Highway 78 near 35th Avenue north of Palo Verde, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Highway 78 was closed in both directions near Palo Verde and California Highway Patrol were currently on scene.
Animal control was requested, according to officials.
