A 57-year-old man struck and killed on the Riverside (91) Freeway following a collision was trying to cross from one side of the eight-lane corridor to the other when he was hit, authorities said Monday.
Kevin Marbury of Riverside was fatally injured shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday on the eastbound 91, just west of Adams Street, in Riverside, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Juan Quintero said Marbury was at the wheel of a Chrysler 300 sedan going west on the 91 when he was involved in a crash with a Porsche.
The two vehicles came to rest in the middle of westbound lanes.
“For reasons still under investigation, (Marbury) exited his vehicle and crossed over onto the eastbound side, where he was struck by a Nissan Sentra in the eastbound HOV lane,” Quintero said.
Riverside Fire Department paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and pronounced Marbury dead at the scene.
The driver of the Porsche suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. The occupants of the Nissan were not hurt.
Lanes on both sides of the 91 were shut down for several hours while officers conducted a preliminary investigation and cleared wreckage.
